National Waterways Museum & Chester
We begin our day with a visit to the National Waterways Museum in its delightful waterside setting at Ellesmere Port, surrounded by flotillas of historic boats and fascinating displays in its fine Victorian buildings. On arrival, tea, coffee and biscuits are served before we climb aboard a narrowboat for a canal cruise on the Shropshire Union Canal, after which we enjoy a guided tour of the museum.
In the afternoon we have free time explore the historic city of Chester at leisure.
Cruise on the River Mersey & Liverpool
We spend today in Liverpool, starting with a cruise on the River Mersey with its unrivalled views of the ever-evolving UNESCO world heritage waterfront. The rest of the day we have at leisure to discover Albert Dock and Liverpool's famous world-class attractions, including The World Museum, the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour, the Cavern Club and the Museum of Liverpool to name but a few.
Arley Hall & Gardens and Anderton Boat Lift
We spend this morning at beautiful Arley Hall, where we have time at leisure to explore this historic family home and gardens, amongst the finest in the UK. After lunch, we visit the historic Anderton Boat Lift, a masterpiece of Victorian engineering. We enjoy a voyage in a glass covered boat to experience exactly how the lift works - by raising us 50ft into the air! Afterwards we enjoy a cruise along the river while we devour a cream tea.
We say farewell to our hotel hosts and board the coach for the journey home.
