Isle of Man Steam Railway & The Old House of Keys
We start today with a classic journey aboard the Isle of Man Steam Railway from Douglas to the seaside resort of Port Erin, where we have free time to explore. This afternoon we make a visit to The Old House of Keys, the former meeting place of the Isle of Man's parliament. It is located across the streetfrom Castle Rushen in Castletown, the former capital of the Isle of Man, in the south of the island.
Peel & Great Laxey Wheel & Mines Trail
After breakfast, we journey to Peel, said to be the best example of a typical Manx town. Find smoked kippers, the dramatic Peel castle, the harbour with a lovely flat sandy beach and the House of Manannan Museum featuring a Viking Longboat. We then continue to Niarbyl with spectacular views of the coastline and in the afternoon we continue to Laxey, with a visit to the world's largest working waterwheel Lady Isabella. On the same site is the Great Mines Trail with displays of the once thriving mining complex with a chance to enter a section of the mine.
Enjoy a free day in Douglas, the island's capital, taking in views of the bay from the Victorian promenade or visiting the excellent Manx Museum for a journey through the island's history.
Milntown House & Gardens
Set in the beautiful parish of Lezayre, Milntown is the Island's only Historical Estate. Fifteen acres of beautiful gardens and woodland surround this magnificent mansion, and the café at its heart. In the afternoon we leave Milntown House and enjoy a drive back to our hotel for an afternoon at leisure.
Following an early breakfast, we begin our journey home.
