We arrive at our hotel in time for welcome tea/coffee, before dinner.
We spend our day in medieval Stratford-upon-Avon and explore the 16th century birthplace of William Shakespeare. With our free time we can immerse ourselves in the world of the playwright and poet with visits to Shakespeare's Birthplace, Shakespeare's New Place exhibition and gardens, and the Church of the Holy Trinity, where he is buried. A truly fascinating day!
Batsford Arboretum & Cotswolds
Explore Batsford Arboretum this morning - home to the country's largest private collection of trees and shrubs. Set in a glorious 56 acres of Cotswold countryside, this is a place of beauty and serenity. We stroll through a fascinating collection from around the globe, on our 90-minute guided tour. Next, we set off to explore and enjoy some pretty Cotswolds destinations, including the market town, Moreton-in-Marsh. Here, we'll have time for lunch and to browse the popular open-air street market, which is the largest in the Cotswolds (open Tuesdays). We finish our day in the charming village of Bourton-on-the-Water. Fondly nicknamed the 'Venice of the Cotwolds' and considered one of the prettiest villages in England, we can enjoy some tranquil time by the River Windrush, admiring the distinctive low bridges.
Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway, Broadway & Hidcote Manor Gardens
Today, we make tracks for the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway for a one-way journey from Toddington to
Broadway. Relax and take in the spectacular Cotswolds scenery as we travel. We take time to explore beautiful Broadway, including its pretty tree-lined high street, independent shops and galleries - and for a spot of lunch in one of its lovely eateries. We round-off the day at Hidcote Manor Gardens, where we enjoy an introductory talk about this arts and crafts inspired garden. Featuring an array of colourful and intricately designed outdoor 'rooms', we wander along paved pathways as we adventure through the fabulous blooms and spot visiting wildlife along the way.
After breakfast, we make our way home.
