We make our way to our hotel in Leicester, with time to check in and explore the hotel facilities before dinner is served.
Bluebell Dairy & The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop
We start the day with an ice cream! First stop is the Bluebell Dairy in Derby, owned by the Brown family they started making ice-creams in 2007 when the price of milk from the herd of Holstein began to fall. What started with perfecting Vanilla and Chocolate and have since grown to offer 26 flavours around the UK, all the work is still carried out on the farm, from the milking to the packaging. While here we tour the farm, watch the process of making ice cream and sample some of the favours.
For the afternoon we head to the Peak District to visit the Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop, located in the heart of the market town of Bakewell they have been making puddings since the 1800's, with all that experience who better than to give a master class in Bakewell pudding making! Roll up your sleeves to create your own pudding while the chefs give tips and pointers. We than take our seats in the café for tea/coffee while our puddings bake before we collect them and head back to the hotel.
Melton Cheeseboard & Ye Olde Pork Pie shoppe
This morning we travel to the historic market town of Melton Mowbray, famous for its pork pie and speciality cheeses for a day of samples and demonstrations of both. We begin with a visit to The Melton Cheeseboard shop, based in the heart of Melton Mowbray they specialise in Stilton and sourcing many of the dairy from the local area. With a stock of around 150 different products you may be overwhelmed by choice, so we have arranged for some sampling while we visit for you to experience what if on offer. After We visit Ye Olde Pie Shoppe where Dickinson & Morris has been baking Melton Mowbray Pork Pies since 1851 and are now the oldest and only remaining bakery producing authentic Melton Mowbray Pork Pies in the town centre. While here we watch a demonstration by an expert on how to hand raise a pork pie and learn about how they became so famous in the town.
Please note: the group may be split into sub-groups of and will alternate between the Melton Cheese Board, the Morris Pork Pie Shoppe and visiting the local market town due to the space available in the shops.
Trent River Cruise & Leicester
Today we head through the countryside to Nottinghamshire where we board our boat for a leisurely cruise on the Trent river with tea and biscuits. This scenic journey will have you feeling relaxed and refreshed as sail past all the sights of Nottingham. Before we make our way back to the hotel we back a stop in Leicester, for you to explore one of the oldest cities in England with a history going back 2000 years. Home to the National Space centre, Abbey Pumping Station and the King Richard III Visitor Centre, telling the story of the life, death and discovery of the king who now lies in the nearby Leicester Cathedral.
