Day 2

Towards the North Pennines
Enjoy a scenic drive today in the beautiful Durham Dales. We travel to Stanhope, the 'capital' of Weardale and visit the nearby Durham Dales Centre. This unique venue sports a range of attractions such as a tearoom offering homemade hot and cold meals plus speciality coffees and teas; gift shops; speciality craft shops; and lovely gardens. Continue towards the North Pennines and through the pretty villages of Middleton-in-Teesdale, Romaldkirk and Cotherstone to the market town of Barnard Castle.

Day 3

An afternoon in Durham
A leisurely morning to enjoy the facilities of the hotel, before making our way this afternoon to the ancient and historic city of Durham, acclaimed as a World Heritage Site and dominated by the magnificent Norman Cathedral and Castle, high above the River Wear. We can explore the city with its labyrinth of little streets and alleyways, or you may fancy a stroll by the river before exploring the town and the 'Lumiere', the Festival of Light. The 4-day festival brings a sprinkle of winter magic to the city. Artists create a breath-taking series of installations, illuminations and performances using light. 'Lumiere' will turn the city into a winter wonderland, transforming its stunning buildings, streets and riverbanks into shining vistas that will amaze residents and visitors alike.

Day 4

Hadrian's Wall & Cobbled Hexham
After breakfast we travel through the fabulous scenery of the beautiful Northumbria countryside along the Hadrian's Wall route. We then visit the charming market town of Hexham, characterised by its stone architecture, cobbled streets and historic buildings before continuing on our tour along Military Road where we see the magnificent wall at close quarters.
