Clovelly & Hartland Abbey & Gardens
We spend this morning in the charming, privately owned village of Clovelly, where we have time at leisure to explore. Start at the visitor centre and watch a film of the history of the village before strolling down the traffic-free steep cobbled street to the tiny ancient fishing harbour. Visit the Charles Kingsley and Fisherman's Cottage museums along the way, take in the glorious views, flower-strewn cottages and Clovelly's famous donkeys as you go! Once back at the top of the village, browse the gift shops and craft centre or relax in the Clovelly Court Gardens. We have time for lunch (not included) in one of the cosy bars or cafés before we make our way to stunning Hartland Abbey & Gardens. A popular filming location, many films and TV programmes have been filmed here, including Enid Blyton's Malory Towers which is due to air in 2020.
Please note, guests need to be able to walk into Clovelly and up and down the hill, however, Land Rover transfers are also available for a supplement.
Lynton & Lynmouth & Illfracombe
This morning, we spend time at leisure in the twin villages of Lynton and Lynmouth, where we can take the cliff railway from one to the other! The unique Victorian water powered funicular cliff lift (disabled access is limited) will transport us 500ft up and down to the villages, where we can explore their little independent shops selling local produce, gifts, arts and crafts. In the afternoon, we head back to Illfracombe, where we have free time to relax on the seafront and explore the attractions and picturesque natural harbour.
RHS Rosemoor & Bideford
This morning, we make our way to enchanting RHS Garden Rosemoor. Nestled in the Torridge Valley, the Rosemoor gardens are eye catching at any time of year with several gardens to explore, including the fragrant rose gardens, the brightly coloured Hot Garden, the Foliage Garden, Stone Garden and Exotic Garden to name but a few. In the afternoon, we spend time at leisure in the traffic-free lanes of the historic harbour town of Bideford. Explore the quirky little shops, the riverside quay and the historic indoor Pannier market (involves an uphill walk).
After breakfast we leave and begin our homeward journey.
