Trentham Gardens & Visitor Centre, World of Wedgwood & Shugborough Estate
This morning, we visit Trentham Gardens & Visitor Centre and enjoy a peaceful stroll through the award-winning Italian Garden - keep an eye out for fairies, they're not only at the bottom of the garden! Next we discover the fascinating history and heritage of World of Wedgwood which showcases the very best of British craftsmanship from expertise honed over 260 years. In the afternoon we travel to Shugborough Estate, once aptly described as a 'Perfect Paradise'; wonder at the opulence of Lord Lichfield's quarters and the glorious gardens dotted with Oriental and Greek influenced monuments and follies.
Kedleston Hall, Calke Abbey & Derby
We begin today with a trip to Kedleston Hall, a beautiful mansion framed by parkland. Built for lavish entertaining and containing extensive collections of art, it is a stunning example of architect Robert Adam's work. It's worth spending time roaming the attractive gardens with lakes separated by tinkling waterfalls. Next we step back in time to experience the sense of abandonment in the 'un-stately' Calke Abbey. Left untouched to show a country estate in decline, it features a vast collection of unique objects presented as originally found. We then spend time at leisure in the friendly town of Derby.
Chatsworth Estate & Haddon Hall
We spend this morning exploring the breath-taking Chatsworth Estate in the heart and the jewel of the Peak District National Park. The house reveals 30 sumptuous rooms plus a diverse collection of art; look out for the memorable illusionist painting of a violin hanging on a door. The gardens are a treat with fountains, ponds, sculptures and a huge maze. We then travel through stunning countryside to Haddon Hall, recognised as one of the most romantic houses in Britain. This elegant house and grounds have played host to a number of historical films including Jane Eyre and Pride & Prejudice.
After breakfast, we make our way home.
