Relax at leisure in lovely Bardolino, enjoying its scenic medieval centre teeming with bars and cafés. Take a ferry to nearby Lazise - a hidden gem of a beautiful historic walled town.Br, D
We follow the river Mincio south to one of Italy's loveliest villages, Borghetto sul Mincio. We have time to stretch the legs and enjoy a cappuccino overlooking Borghetto's scenic weir and river before we continue to the stunning city of Mantua. Lesser known than Verona, Mantua boasts a fine medieval centre which is home to one of the finest Ducal Palaces in Italy belonging to the Gonzaga family. There are plenty of cafés and shops plus small characterful restaurants tempting visitors with the local Mantuan specialities 'tortelli con la zucca' (ravioli stuffed with pumpkin) and 'sbrisolona' (biscuit cake with almonds).Br, D
This morning we drive into the beautiful Valtenesi countryside until we reach Cantine Redaelli De Zinis where we indulge in some delicious wine tastings plus a brief visit to the cellars. From here we continue to the delightful lakeside town of Salo, which boasts the longest promenade in all of Lake Garda. We enjoy free time and maybe purchase lunch in this historic location.Br, D
We visit the 'jewel in the crown' of Lake Garda - the peninsular of Sirmione with its lovely moated castle and medieval centre. From here we travel into the countryside and discover the small chapel at San Martino della Battaglia which pays homage to fallen soldiers who fought in the Battle of San Martino in 1859 with its astonishing 'ossuary'. We continue into the hills to 'Trattoria da Arturo'. We will enjoy some of the best hand-made pasta we have ever tasted 'bigoli al ragu' with some superb grilled meats washed down with plentiful home-made wine - a relaxing and authentic Italian experience!Br, D
