In 2022, Holland will host the World Horticultural Exhibition - Floriade Expo 2022 for a period of six months. It will occupy a 60-hectare site in the heart of the city of Almere, just a half hour drive from Amsterdam. This, the greenest of all days out, promises to excite, inform and inspire both young and old!
The 10 yearly Floriade in Holland will prove to be one of the events of the year, and what better way to experience Holland in all its splendour than by cruising the serene waterways that criss-cross the country. From Amsterdam to the Bulbfields and to Floriade itself, these cruises have something for everyone, and are incredibly cost-effective.

Full day at Floriade - it only happens every 10 years!
After your choice of breakfast, we'll disembark the ship in the morning and travel by coach to Floriade. Here the Dutch horticulture sector, together with national and international participants, will exhibit green and sustainable solutions to make our cities more fun, attractive and viable into the future. You will discover new technologies for greenery, food, energy and health that have been researched and implemented within this living laboratory. Inspiring gardens, conferences, workshops and exhibitions will be mixed with impressive attractions, surprising tasting sessions, art and culture. The site will be full of energy and action. Naturally, all in wonderful, green surroundings. After a day full of new experiences, exciting discoveries and beautiful creations, we’ll return to our ship to unwind over tea and biscuits before this evening’s dinner.
We disembark the ship in the morning in Zaandam and travel by coach to Keukenhof Gardens. Keukenhof Gardens is home to 70-acres filled with over 6 million bulbs in both landscaped gardens and glasshouses. We then return to Hoorn and board the ship to enjoy some leisure time, complete with tea and biscuits. This evening we'll have a special gala farewell dinner, during which the ladies will receive a small present from the ship's captain.
Cruise through the Bulbfields
Today we sail through the Bulbfields departing Hoorn for Alkmaar. Have a leisurely breakfast on board and watch the gorgeous Dutch scenery slip serenely past, as we cruise gently through this most beautiful floral landscape. The day is all yours afloat to enjoy lunch, afternoon tea and biscuits and then our evening meal, while relaxing and making the most of this colourful cruise.
We disembark our ship in Alkmaar and after breakfast and depart for Calais. Here we will begin our return crossing to the UK and home.
Please Note: As our itineraries are written many months in advance, they may be subject to change without prior notice due to tide times etc.
A favourite for river cruising, The MV Esmeralda is a comfortable vessel decorated in traditional Dutch style. All en-suite cabins have air conditioning, a TV and a safe. The lounge and reception are located on the upper deck, and the tastefully decorated restaurant is on the main deck. There is a lift between the promenade deck and the main deck as well as a stair lift to the sun deck.
River cruising is not always suitable to those with mobility issues and a reasonable degree of mobility is required. This is due to ship access and occasionally ships needing to dock one or more ships abreast. It is also not always possible to park the coach alongside the ship. MV Esmeralda is a 2-deck ship with a lift between the 2 floors plus a stair lift to sun deck.
All cabins are classed as outside cabins, all are identical in terms of their facilities and size.
All beds are able to be folded away into a sofa. Staff will fold away and open the beds for you.
Tipping is entirely at the passenger's discretion and should reflect your satisfaction with the services received. At the end of the cruise, you will find a ship's questionnaire in your cabin. This is where you can leave your comments and feedback, together with any tip you would like to leave for the crew. As a guide, we recommend tipping approximately 5 per day if you are happy with the service provided. Please be aware, any tips left will not include the Cruise Director/Cruise Manager, so you may wish to tip them separately.
