Gardens of Chateau de Villandry & Chateau et Jardins du Rivau
Our relaxing day starts with a short drive to the beautiful gardens in the grounds of the impressive Château de Villandry. Don't miss the varied sections of the Renaissance Garden within this World Heritage Site. Afterwards we visit Château et Jardins du Rivau where we enjoy a guided tour of the Château, before settling down to a lunch including wine followed by a tasting of 3 wines. We spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the gardens.
Tours & Amboise
Today we will travel to the nearby capital of the region, Tours. We will have free time at leisure to explore. With its impressive old town by the river, beautiful tree-lined squares with half-timbered houses, narrow winding streets, churches and excellent shopping, there is plenty to enjoy. In the afternoon we will return to Amboise and visit the charming town where our hotel is based. We can wander the small streets of the town centre and marvel at the Trogoldyte cave dwellings that have been turned into houses and wine cellars. We could try some local wine and also visit the Clos Lucé Castle where Leonardo di Vinci spent his final years.
Chaumont-Sur-Loire & Chateau de Chenonceau
This morning we make our way to Château Chaumont-sur-Loire, built on the site of a former fortress that had dominated the Loire river it offered resistance to the many attacks on the Royal town of Blois using this route. Its location overlooking the town and the river made it an ideal place to build a chateau for more peaceful times. In the afternoon, we continue to perhaps the most impressive of all, Château Chenonceau. The château has a dramatic history of intrigue and is possibly most famous for its connection with the French Royal family and Catherine de Medici. Its dramatic position across the River Cher also makes it one of the most iconic locations in the whole of France.
We travel back to the local area for your return home.
