Plymouth & Coleton Fishacre
We spend the morning in Plymouth where you can take in the sites, stroll along the waterfront, see the spectacular Hoe or perhaps visit the Barbican, a bustling area of specialist shops, restaurants, Gin distillery, cafes and attractions, all in a picturesque harbour setting.
We return to the hotel for lunch before heading to the Coleton Fishacre House and gardens where their 'Coleton Aglow' event will be taking place. Follow the path as it weaves between sparkling fairy lights towards the Rill Garden, exotic trees, plants and glittering disco balls illuminate the features of the fern glade. There's the summer house and gazebo offering impressive views across the illuminated valley garden. As you wander back through the garden, the warm glow and seasonal cheer glimpsing through the house windows might tempt you to join the party and soak up more festivities indoors. Decadent decorations glisten and shimmer throughout while party music floats out into the grounds.
Dartmoor's National park & The Eden Project
We take a scenic drive of Dartmoor's National park before lunch is served at the hotel.
The Eden Project is our destination this afternoon. Nestled in a huge crater, massive biomes house the largest rainforest in captivity. Experience the sights, smells and scale of the rainforests in the Rainforest Biome - the world's largest greenhouse - and discover the tropical plants that are used to produce everyday products. Travel to South Africa and California, as you stroll amongst the orange and lemon trees, olive groves and gnarled vines of the Mediterranean Biome, there's lots to be discovered. In the evening we witness the festive light show taking place under the Eden Project's biomes.
We spend the day in Dartmouth, one of the loveliest of the South Hams towns, and well deserving of its reputation as the jewel in Devon's crown. Picturesque Dartmouth is very much a 'yachtie town' where you'll see all kinds of craft on the beautiful river. Stroll along the Embankment of this historic town with the distinctive Britannia Royal Naval College set proud on the hillside. Why not take a range of river trips, browse the shops and soak up the history.
After breakfast, we journey back home to the local area.
