Westonbirt Arboretum & Bath
After breakfast, we visit Westonbirt, The National Arboretum, for a 90-minute walking tour. Home to 5 national tree collections and 2500 different species from all corners of the globe, we can appreciate the majesty and understand the importance of the arboretum in research and conservation. We have time for lunch in the friendly café before departing for Bath, and the afternoon at leisure. We are spoilt for choice with things to do and see in this honey-coloured, compact city: from the famous Roman Baths and Pump Rooms to the Royal Crescent, Victoria Art Gallery and Bath Brew House, it feels as though we have stepped into a Jane Austen novel.
The Garden at Miserden & Cheltenham & Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway
This morning, we travel to The Garden at Miserden for a mid-morning guided tour. This 17th century house and garden are a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Overlooking a deer park and rolling hills beyond, our tour takes us through the delightfully cared for gardens, including extensive Yew, a notable topiary walks and ancient Mulberry Tree amongst other features. For lunchtime, we head into Cheltenham with its great choice of dining options, before going to the famous Race Course to join the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway (GWSR), for a gentle 35-minute journey through glorious Cotswold countryside to Toddington, where there is a shop, museum and large tearoom. Please note, GWSR events are held on some weekends, when the railway will be extra busy.
After breakfast we make our way home.
