Ravenglass & Eskdale Steam Railway & Muncaster Castle
This morning, we start with a return steam train journey on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Steam Railway from the coastal village of Ravenglass to the very heart of the Lake District, Dalegarth, where we will disembark for a short break before our 40-minute return journey. Once back at Ravenglass station, we re-join our coach for a short 10-minute drive to Muncaster Castle, Gardens, Hawk and Owl Centre, where we spend time exploring this haunted castle and its grounds!
Carnforth Station Heritage Centre, Morecombe & Leighton Hall
This morning we travel to Morecombe with a stop en route at the famous Carnforth Station Heritage Centre and Refreshment Room to enjoy the nostalgia of the station, restored to its 1940's glory when the Refreshment Room was used as the setting for David Lean's film "Brief Encounter". From here, we travel to Morecambe where we spend some time before making our way to historic Leighton Hall, where we enjoy a guided tour and tea/coffee.
Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway & Windermere Cruise
Today, we make our way to Haverthwaite Station from where we enjoy a nostalgic steam train journey on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway to the tip of Lake Windermere and Lakeside pier. At Lakeside, we board our boat to enjoy a 45-minute cruise around the south of Lake Windermere. Arriving at Bowness, we will have time to explore this bustling Lake District town before returning to our hotel.
After breakfast, we make our way home.
Ravenglass & Eskdale Steam Railway
Welcome to the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway. We journey from Ravenglass, the only coastal village in the UNESCO World Heritage site, Lake District National Park. Travel across the estuary, through the hills, past seven request stops with a 1:40 gradient at times, en route to our destination some seven miles up the line to Dalegarth for Boot Station.
Muncaster Castle, Gardens, Hawk & Owl Centre
A historic haunted castle with Himalayan gardens, bluebell woods, Hawk & Owl Centre, exhilarating flying displays, bird of prey experiences, Enchanted Trail and a Meadowvole Maze. There is also a café and gift shop available.
Leighton is still lived in by the Gillow furniture making family dynasty, meaning there are no roped off areas and you can sit and enjoy the tour without being asked not to touch. Friendly and enthusiastic guides welcome you at the front door before leading you through the house, sharing tales of family mischief and eccentricities!
Discover the secrets of the Gillow family: How one former owner found himself in jail, and what exactly is meant by "Tickling the Moose". Climb the flying staircase and find out why there is a lock of King James hair in the Drawing Room.
Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway
Enjoy a nostalgic steam train journey on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway. Travel from Haverthwaite Station to Lakeside on a single journey.
