Day 1

Catch the ferry to Calais and continue to the overnight hotel.

Day 2

Lyon
Continue to the Rhône-Alpes region and to the city of Lyon, where the two rivers Rhône and Saône meet, to board the newly opened ms Amadeus Provence. You can then relax with a welcome cocktail as we set sail towards Marcon.

Day 3

Macon
Wake up to some of France's most gorgeous countryside: rolling green hills dotted with mustard fields and medieval villages. The dashing town of Marcon in southern Burgundy is your first stop where you will join a much sought-after excursion of the wine producing region with a visit to the wine museum dedicated to the history and production of the famous Burgundy wines.

Day 4

Chalon-Sur-Saône > Tournus
This morning's excursion leads you through famous vineyards such as Pommard and Puligny to the small town of Beaune. Two great French passions, wine and food, come together here in a particularly rich and enticing form. Finish off the first half of the day with a tasting of the UNESCO World Heritage rated wines.

Day 5

Lyon
Explore more of Lyon, the third-largest city in France. Discover the city's dynamic cultural life at the outstanding museums, the Basilica, the Roman theatre and the 'Vieux Lyon' or Old Quarter. Adventurous gourmets can indulge in their wildest gastronomic fantasies. Don't leave the city without sampling some Lyonnais specialities in a bouchon - the quintessential Lyon experience, before spending the afternoon cruising the Rhone.

Day 6

Avignon
A walking tour of Avignon including a visit to the Papal Palace delves into the rich religious history of the city, once the ruling seat of Western Christianity during the 14th century. The Papal Palace is one of the largest and most important medieval Gothic buildings in Europe.

Day 7

Arles
Rounding out your experiences, this morning ride into the countryside for an excursion to the Camargue Nature Park close by the pretty town of Avignon which covers 86,000 hectares known for its unique flora and fauna as well as semi-wild bulls and white Camargue horses.

Day 8

Châteauneuf-Du-Rhône > Le Pouzin
This morning spend free time in Viviers and take in the lovely pale-stone buildings, presided over by a graceful hilltop cathedral, ultimately creating a dreamlike vision from the vantage point of the river on one side and flowery fields on the other. Exploring the town on foot allows you a fascinating glimpse of its layered history, from Roman and medieval times to the Renaissance and beyond, and an up-close view of a charming French country village. Celebrate your final evening with the sumptuous Captain's Gala Dinner.

We disembark at Lyon this morning and travel by coach to our overnight hotel.

After breakfast we continue by coach to Calais for our return crossing and onward journey home.
