Nestling on the edge of the Peak District, Lyme Park, House and Garden was once home to the Legh family and was, in its heyday, a great sporting estate. Lyme is now managed by the National Trust and was used as a location for the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, starring Colin Firth. Step back in time to the Regency era - a time which saw great rejuvenation for Lyme. Enjoy lavish interiors, try out the billiards table in the Long Gallery, read a book in the library, or visit the Dressing Room to try on the finest Regency regalia. After you have visited the house there is still the gardens to explore. Take a walk in the elegant Rose Garden or Ravine Garden, or stroll along the luxurious herbaceous borders next to the reflecting lake where a certain Mr Darcy met Miss Bennet.
Bakewell & Buxton
This morning we visit picturesque Bakewell. The town has a long and fascinating history; first mentioned in the Doomsday Book of 1085, it has been attracting visitors for 2,000 years. Of course, Bakewell is famous the world over for the culinary delights of its Bakewell tart. In the afternoon we head to Buxton, a town with several claims to fames. As well as being the capital of the High Peak, it is also the highest town of its size in England and is blessed with stunning scenery, magnificent architecture, a wealth of shops, a thriving arts scene and its world-famous spa water.
Today we travel to Chatsworth House in the heart of the Peak District. Explore many rooms including the magnificent Painted Hall, State Rooms, Sketch Galleries and Sculpture Gallery. Following our visit, we call in at the Chatsworth Farm Shop in the nearby village of Pilsley.
We depart after breakfast and return to the local area.Br
