We make our way to Shropshire arriving at the hotel late afternoon where tea/coffee and biscuits are served on arrival.
Today we drive down the picturesque Wenlock Edge, off the beaten track towards historic Ludlow with its castle and endless array of listed buildings. Here we have time to obtain lunch and explore before we make our way back through delightful Shropshire countryside to Bridgnorth and return to the hotel.
Oswestry & Shrewsbury
Our first visit today is to 'where Shropshire meets Wales', the vibrant market town of Oswestry where you can hear welsh and English voices mingling side by side in the recently voted "coolest place to live in England". Today is market day, with both indoor and outdoor markets to browse. In the afternoon it is Shrewsbury that catches our attention, packed with timber framed black and white buildings amongst narrow alleyways and surrounded by the River Severn.
Ironbridge Gorge & Blists Hill Victorian Town
We visit the impressive Ironbridge Gorge where the world's first iron bridge forms the centre of this World Heritage Site. After a break here, we make our way to Blists Hill Victorian town. This 52-acre site is a bustling recreation of a Victorian town. Buy curious products in the Chemist, Grocers and Drapers, discover what life was like for a housewife in the cottages, enjoy a drink in the New Inn, a portion of delicious fish and chips, or a bag of old fashioned sweets.
After breakfast we leave and head for home.Br
