Journey on one of the most scenic railways in the UK, with viaducts, tunnels and magnificent views as it carves its way through the landscape of the Yorkshire Dales, Eden Valley and the North Pennines. Combined with a visit to Southport's sandy beach and Gretna's famous attractions, this tour promises to impress.

4* HALLMARK HOTEL PRESTON LEYLAND

This uniquely furnished hotel with chaise-longues and over-sized chairs offers ample, cosy seating in the bar and lounge areas, whilst the restaurant is modern and light. Bedrooms are traditional and well-equipped. Free leisure facilities include a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. There is no lift but ground floor rooms can be requested.

 

4* GRETNA HALL HOTEL & BLACKSMITHS

Steeped in history, this hotel retains much of its original character from 1710 whilst offering a good standard of accommodation and well-equipped bedrooms. A comfortable bar offers regular entertainment and there is a traditional Anvil Restaurant. The hotel is within walking distance of the Gretna Retail Outlet and town centre.

We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.

Southport
Spend time at leisure enjoying Southport's beautiful sandy beaches. Southport Beach itself boasts the most amazing views of the Lancashire coastline, as well as the Victorian Grade II Listed iron pier, the second longest in the country.

Day 3

Settle - Carlisle Railway Journey
Travel to Settle to board the morning departure for a journey on the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway. Ride through 72 miles of unspoilt countryside enjoying breath-taking scenery including the world-famous Ribblehead Viaduct. We arrive in Carlisle where we have free time for lunch before we continue our journey to Gretna.

Day 4

Gretna
Today, visit the award-winning Devil's Porridge Museum where most munitions were produced during WW1 by an army of women determined to do their bit for the war effort. In the afternoon, visit the Gretna Green Blacksmiths Shop to experience a wedding re-enactment at The Gretna Green Story Exhibition, housed within the original blacksmith's cottage and workshop.
