Drive from Tarrenz, via the Fernpass and Reutte to the Benedictine Abbey of Ettal - almost 900m above sea level. It is in a narrow mountain valley of the Western Alpine foothills. The grounds are large and castle like, once an independent religious community it produced everything needed for life and had on-site all-important workshops and undertakings. These days you can visit the abbey and its own brewery as well as a shop where products can be purchased.

Continue to Oberammergau to include a visit to the Passion Play Theatre and guided tour. Free time afterwards in the town famous for wood-carving shops and lovely half-timbered buildings. Continue to Linderhof for guided tour of the famous King Ludwig's Palace, with its intricately ornate interiors. Following this return to Tarrenz.
