Day 3

Ettal, Oberammergau & Linderhof
Drive from Tarrenz, via the Fernpass and Reutte to the Benedictine Abbey of Ettal - almost 900m above sea level. It is in a narrow mountain valley of the Western Alpine foothills. Before the intervention of railroad, Ettal was an important Alpine pass connecting between Augsburg and Italy. The grounds are large and castle like, once an independent religious community it produced everything needed for life and had on-site all-important workshops and undertakings. These days you can visit the abbey and its own brewery as well as a shop where products can be purchased.

Continue to Oberammergau to include a visit to the Passion Play Theatre and guided tour. Free time afterwards in the town famous for wood-carving shops and lovely half-timbered buildings. Continue to Linderhof for guided tour of the famous King Ludwig's Palace, with its intricately ornate interiors. Following this return to Tarrenz.
