1 June 2011 Lucketts Travel Article - Over 5,000 USA sailors + 1 weekend = 150 coaches provided by Lucketts Travel

Over 5,000 American sailors landed on Portsmouths shores this weekend and Lucketts Travel was on hand to make sure the travel logistics went smoothly.

The Fareham based coach hire firm supplied more than 150 coaches over the weekend. Lucketts Travels professional fleet of vehicles helped transport the company of the worlds newest and most powerful warship, the USS George H W Bush that dropped anchor in Stokes Bay, Gosport, and the USS Thuxton that berthed in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, both on Friday (27th May 2011).

A fleet of executive people carriers were also at their disposal for the duration of the stay, for officers and senior crew who needed to be transported to various events.

Lucketts Travel devised a mammoth planning operation in the run up to the weekend, with a team of staff working all weekend in the Portsmouth Naval Base and additional office staff in Fareham to coordinate the sailors transport requirements.

150 coaches were laid on over the weekend for shore excursions. The crew enjoyed all the traditional sightseeing favourites, from the excitement of London to the historical heritage of Stonehenge and many of the junior ranks took the opportunity to explore the attractions Portsmouth has to offer seeing as they had to be back on board at the end of each day.

Aside from transporting the US sailors around over the weekend, Lucketts Travel was also busy providing 16 coaches for another high profile event, transporting corporate groups and VIPs around London on Saturday night for the UEFA Champions League final at Wembley.
