Day 3

Today we head out to the National Coal Mining Museum, a unique place where the history of mining over several centuries is not only preserved but brought vividly to life with the sights, sounds and smells of a working coal mine. You have the opportunity to travel 140m underground with one of the ex-miners to experience the life of a coal miner. Back on the surface, you can see pit ponies, galleries and exhibits. This afternoon we make our way to the picturesque village of Cawthorne. Here you can explore Cannon Hall, a stunning Country House Museum set in 70 acres of historic parkland and beautiful gardens. Visit the museum in this Georgian House to learn about the family who lived there and the iron making empire they forged.

PLEASE NOTE: For those who wish to go underground at the National Coal Mining Museum, a fee of £3.00 per person is payable on the day for a brass cheque (disk) which can either be refunded or given as a donation.
