We make our way to Lincolnshire arriving in time to settle in with tea and biscuits on arrival.
Today we have time to explore the town of Grantham, originally known for its engineering heritage and is recognised as the birthplace of Baroness Margaret Thatcher. We return to the hotel where following dinner, you have the unmissable opportunity to engage in a talk of Lincoln's heritage and highlights from a keen local prior to our visit tomorrow.
Today we explore the Easton Estate and Walled Gardens. In 2001, the owners began to clear the gardens of brash and brambles and in patches, snowdrops were hanging on in the undergrowth. As the light was allowed back in, the snowdrops began to recover and with encouragement and top dressing, they have now spread across two banks alongside the river and release wafts of honey scented perfume on sunny days. Around these naturalized plantings there are hellebores, crocuses, daffodils and blue chionodoxa, whilst in the upper gardens you can see pretty groupings of early flowering perennials and small bulbs.
Please note: Snowdrops blooming are weather dependent, however it is likely that they will be in bloom in the first two weeks of Feb
We make our way to Stamford which offers a quintessential English heritage experience combined with an architectural legacy which has drawn innumerable film companies for classics such as Pride and Prejudice and Middlemarch. Having been declared an outstanding area of architectural or historic interest that is of national importance this little town has more than 600 listed buildings of mellow limestone – more than half the total for the whole county!
After a leisurely breakfast, begin your homeward journeyBr
