Day 1

We travel to the Midlands and the delightful former spa town of Royal Leamington Spa, where we take a break to enjoy a stroll through beautiful Jephson Gardens and the town centre. We continue our journey to Derby, arriving late afternoon where tea/coffee and biscuits will be served on arrival.

Day 2

A free day to discover the city of Derby. A highlight is the Cathedral Quarter with unique independent shops, great cafes, restaurants and bars, stunning arts, cultural venues and historic landmarks including the magnificent Cathedral itself - the tower is one of the tallest in the country. The Westfield retail complex has all the major stores, but don’t miss ‘Bennetts’ department store, opened in 1734.

Day 3

Our first stop today is in the city of Nottingham. Rediscover the legend of Robin Hood at the ‘Tales of Robin Hood’ exhibition, and have a look at the castle which is now a museum. The city has many museums including the Lace Museum dating back to the 19th century, the Brewhouse Yard and more. Well worth a visit is reputedly England’s oldest inn, the ‘Trip to Jerusalem’. Carved into the
rock and linked to the caves under the castle, the inn dates back to 1189 and is a fascinating place. Leaving Nottingham, we head north to Newstead Abbey, former home of Lord Byron, where we end the day with cream tea.
